Podcaster Tim Pool has confirmed that YouTube took down two of the biggest episodes of his “Timcast IRL” podcast that featured Joe Rogan, Michael Malice and Alex Jones.
The Post Millennial (PM) earlier reported that the two episodes were taken down after being up for three years. According to Pool, the video streaming platform owned by Google retroactively enforced its rules to censor the two episodes.
“YouTube has declared war on ‘Timcast IRL’ [by] retroactively enforcing rules against our two biggest shows ever featuring Rogan, Malice and Jones. They gave BS reasons for the removals,” he wrote on X. The podcaster told PM that the censorship reasons included allegations that the episodes promoted QAnon conspiracy theories as well as medical misinformation.
One of the censored episodes, which was first aired in 2021, featured a discussion among the three male guests and transgender Blaire White. The said episode covered various topics, including the border crisis in the U.S. and the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse after he shot and killed two assailants during Black Lives Matter protests in Wisconsin.
“YouTube’s action comes as no surprise, given its past crackdowns on controversial figures like Alex Jones, whom the platform has previously removed for allegedly violating community standards,” the outlet said. In response to this censorship, the InfoWars founder set up a video sharing platform of his own called Banned.video.
YouTube defines hate speech and harassment to include any speech that incites hatred “against groups based on protected attributes such as age, gender, race, caste, religion, sexual orientation or veteran status.”
“The platform has had a number of controversial community guidelines that have been disproportionately used to censor conservative voices. During the [Wuhan coronavirus] pandemic, YouTube also implemented a ‘misinformation’ policy that removed any content deemed contradictory to the advice of medical professionals regarding the virus.” (Related: If YouTube can now censor doctors for their opinions, they can censor anyone talking about nutrition or healthy eating.)
Pool, who hails from Canada, is not the only personality from the Land of Maple who found himself banned by the Google-owned platform. Clinical psychologist Dr. Jordan B. Peterson has also crossed swords with YouTube over its censorship policy.
In early February, the University of Toronto professor emeritus posted on X about YouTube’s censorship effort – in this case, it’s the disabling of the autofill function for him and his daughter Mikhaila whenever a user searches their videos.
“The saboteurs at YouTube have disabled autofill for my name and that of my daughter. These pathological shadow figures are messing with the very structure of our perceptions – what we see in the virtual world – and with the stability of weights and measures themselves,” he wrote. “What’s up, YouTube? This is not acceptable.”
Peterson also addressed X owner Elon Musk in the same post, adding: “Take note, if you care to – this is precisely the problem you are trying to solve.”
One fan of the clinical psychologist tried out to see if Peterson’s claim was true. “I just checked and he’s 100 percent correct. I literally typed ‘Jordan Pete’ and nothing.”
“The only possible way to make them change course is loss of revenue,” another chimed in. “History will look back on [Musk’s] purchase of Twitter as one of the greatest factors in turning all this madness around. Transition to X so the future is bright for everyone.”
